О себе

“He was drawing as long as he can remember himself, the passion for this he inherited from his father who always took his box of of paints with him, and from his grandmother who is now 95 y.o. and still paints small aquarelle sketches of Russian landscapes.

He did his first storyboard out of photos he took in the back of their house in New York in 1992. They were pictures of his father’s feet in Nike snickers and a basketball on the pavement, all done for a project he did for the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York State University) where he was studying advertising design.

When his family returned to Moscow, he continued studies of communication arts in Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts - the best Russian art school and the alma-mater of many renowned Russian artists and architects. Simultaneously to that he started working as an Art Director at BBDO Moscow, creating TV advertising campaigns for clients such as Pepsi, 7up, Wrigley, M&M’s, Snickers, etc.

At BBDO he got a chance not only to learn how to bring the idea from it’s initial stage to the final audio/visual form, but also to get into main aspects of video production processes. And the chance to work with a lot of international directors and production companies around the world broadened his shooting and directing experience immensely.

As Russian film industry was in deep stagnation at that time the only place where one could hear a 35mm camera roll was on a TV Commercial set, and he says that if he didn’t hear that sound for more than a month he got nervous. That was the time when he knew he was hooked on moving pictures and this passion still grows even though modern digital cameras don’t make that particular buzzing sound anymore...

During the 12 years of working in BBDO and lately in his own advertising studio, he shot and art-directed over 300 commercials all over the world, some of which got prizes on international advertising festivals.

Few years ago he decided to concentrate mostly on directing and on shaping his director’s reel.

Originally from Moscow he lived in China during his early childhood years, then in New York, and then after settling again in Moscow continued traveling around the world shooting commercials, which helped him in finding common ground with people basically any where in the world. This has greatly influenced his visual language too.

The above was written from Andrew's own modest narration but in fact Andrew Mudrov had long ago become the brand name in Russian advertising world and his campaigns are being studied in all Moscow ad and communication schools. But he's a real artist who wants to create and not to become "a guru". That is why it is such fun to work with him, same as 10-15 years ago when he was our most loved art-director.”
